CSA #12-B Essay Writing Bootcamp (Seniors)

No calisthenics or saluting; we promise.  Bring your college admission or scholarship essay(s) and meet with Crosby staff and volunteers experienced in critiquing students’ writing.  Essays will be reviewed primarily for content with respect to following the prompt and being clear on what students are trying to share about themselves.  Those students whose essays reveal significant deficiencies in grammar, punctuation, and spelling will be advised to consult an English teacher for assistance in cleaning up those aspects of their writing.

Location: Virtual- Registration in your student portal for this event is required to received the event link. 24 hours before the event you will receive the link to join the virtual presentation. Students will be assigned a specific timeslot for the event. This information will be emailed 24 hours in advance along with the specific zoom information.

This virtual presentation will require the following:

We’re offering a virtual zoom “college lab” time to assist you in applying to college! If you have specific questions about your college applications, this is a great academy to attend to receive individual help. You can create a Common/CFNC/Coalition account, complete your Residency Determination Service online interview, work on college applications, essays, and more. We’ll have staff on hand to answer any questions you might have about applying to college.

CSA #14 QuestBridge- Behind the Scenes with Admissions Officers (discussion led by QuestBridge) (Seniors)

Join QuestBridge on Septemer 16th for a QuestCast webinar discussing the “Behind the Scenes with Admissions Officers”. Various college respresentatives will talk about the application process, enhancing your college essay, and more to better equip you in your application process.

To receive academy credit you must:

1. Register for the QuestMatch. Link is provided in your Crosby Scholars Student Portal.

2. Attend the webinar on September 16th at 7PMEST (important note: the time listed for QuestBridge is 4:00PM PST which is three hours behind, making it 7PM EST)

3. Once you have completed the webinar, you will be emailed a confirmation from QuestBridge. You must forward this confirmation to seniorprogram@crosbyscholars.org to show proof of attendance. Without this confirmation page, we will not be able to verify or award credit for this academy.

IMPORTANT NOTE: This is not a Crosby Scholars sponsored event, however we will award academy credit for students who participate. Crosby Scholars does not take responsibility for any issues or delays in the presentation, nor the message of the presenters.

About QuestBridge: The QuestBridge National College Match helps outstanding low-income high school seniors gain admission and full four-year scholarships to some of the nation’s most selective colleges. The appliation to apply is September 29, 2020.

CSA #12 Essay Writing BootCamp (Seniors)

Bring your college admission or scholarship essay(s) and VIRTUALLY meet with Crosby staff and volunteers experienced in critiquing students’ writing.  The purpose of this essay is to work with three different readers and receive immediate feedback. Essays will be reviewed primarily for content with respect to following the prompt and being clear on what students are trying to share about themselves.  Those students whose essays reveal significant deficiencies in grammar, punctuation, and spelling will be advised to consult an English teacher for assistance in cleaning up those aspects of their writing.

Your appointment will be hosted over Zoom and you will share your screen with the readers in a private break-out room during the zoom academy.

A few days before the academy, you will receive an e-mail with your specific virtual appointment time and detailed instructions on how to join the virtual bootcamp. *Registration is required in your Crosby Scholars Student Portal.

Remember, you MUST bring a completed essay(s) to this virtual meeting.  If you need help understanding how to write the application essay, please register for CSA#10.

Are you planning to apply to college using the Common Application? Coalition Application? Are you wondering what these options are? Join us for a virtual presentation where we take a deep dive in the common application. We will take a deep dive into the common application and share tips and tricks to make the most of the common application.

The common application will open August 1, 2020 for seniors applying to college in the all of 2020. The application may not be open, but the common application essay prompts have been published and can be found clicking here.

Hear from a former college admissions representative as they share tips and tricks to improve your college essays to enhance your overall application. Wether you are writing your college application essays or scholarship essays, you will learn how to effectively share your story in the college admissions process!
