CSA #13-E College Prep Lab- Time Slot #1 (Seniors)

We’re offering a virtual zoom “college lab” time to assist you in applying to college! If you have specific questions about your college applications, this is a great academy to attend to receive individual help. You can create a Common/CFNC/Coalition account, complete your Residency Determination Service online interview, work on college applications, essays, and more. We’ll have staff on hand to answer any questions you might have about applying to college.

CSA #21 Step by Step Guide to Completing the FAFSA (Seniors)

Filling out and submitting the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is all about being prepared with the right documents. Learn exactly what information is necessary to complete the form correctly, and find out how you can use the Data Retrieval Tool (DRT) to easily submit the form! You will not complete your FAFSA during this academy, if you seek assistance with completing your FAFSA, please register to attend a CFNC FAFSA Day session from October 12-October 15.

For many students, completing the FAFSA is the first step in the financial aid process, and submitting a FAFSA is free.  Most states and colleges use FAFSA information to award financial aid. For instructions on how to complete the FAFSA online, visit www.fafsa.gov.  Visit the web sites of colleges where you are applying to determine which forms they need to consider you for financial aid.

Registered scholars will receive a link via email with login instructions to join the webinar. Space is limited only to those who register and the webinar link is not to be shared with anyone.

We encourage you to watch this webinar a parent with you; however, your parent cannot earn the CSA credit for you. You must watch this academy to earn a CSA credit. 

Seniors are required to attend 2 Crosby Senior Academies to fulfill the Crosby Senior Academy requirement.  Once you register, if you find that you can no longer attend this academy, you must cancel your registration 24 hours prior to the academy through your student portal. Registered scholars who do not attend will jeopardize their status in the Program.

College-A-Day Series: UNC Greensboro (Juniors & Seniors)

Visiting your possible future home for your next educational journey is an exciting time as you consider where to apply for your collegiate career. However, during this year and impacts from campus closures, we have shifted our college tours to a virtual platform. Join us throughout the day on October 23  on social media and webinar, to learn more about UNCG! From 10AM-2PM we will takeover our Instagram (@crosbyscholars) covering a variety of topics on college life at UNCG. We will also host a Live College Panel at 4:00 PM where you will have the opportunity to ask your specific questions to current college students.

We know that nothing can replace the experience of physically touring a college campus, but we do hope we can help you connect with a variety of schools through a virtual platform. To encourage you to participate, we will award credit for the College Fair/Visit requirement if you attend 4 out of the Live College Panels offered between now and December. You will need to register for each Live Panel and attend at least 4 to receive credit.

**SENIORS: The college panel will count for 1 our of 4 of the required college visits needed for the College Fair/Visit requirement due October 31st. You can combine these with additional College-A-Day sessions or complete virtual visits on your own to receive credit for the College Fair/Visit requirement.

Engage with us on social media to let us know you have watched the stories! We are not requiring attendance for the Instagram stories, but we would like to know if you participated! We might even give away free swag to students who share the videos on their social media accounts!

CSA #12-D Essay Writing Bootcamp (Seniors)

No calisthenics or saluting; we promise.  Bring your college admission or scholarship essay(s) and meet with Crosby staff and volunteers experienced in critiquing students’ writing.  Essays will be reviewed primarily for content with respect to following the prompt and being clear on what students are trying to share about themselves.  Those students whose essays reveal significant deficiencies in grammar, punctuation, and spelling will be advised to consult an English teacher for assistance in cleaning up those aspects of their writing.

Students will be assigned a specific timeslot for the event. This information will be emailed 24 hours in advance along with the specific zoom information.

CSA #20- CFNC FAFSA Days- Sponsored by College Foundation of North Carolina (Seniors)

This year’s College Foundation of NC FAFSA Day’s will be hosted virtually. During these sessions representatives from financial aid offices across the state, will assist students with their individual FAFSA needs. A general overview of the 21-22 FAFSA, a discussion of the top 10 FAFSA mistakes, and an introduction to RDS followed by Q&As will be offered on the following days and times.

Registration is required using the links below. This event is hosted by CFNC (not Crosby Scholars) Students should register for each session that they want to attend. Once they register, they’ll receive a confirmation email with their unique link to join the webinar.

HOW TO RECEIVE CREDIT –

  1. Attend one of the approved sessions live or watch the session recording. You must register for the webinar using the links above.
  2. Verify your attendance. Once you have attended a FAFSA Day presentation and have received a confirmation of attendance for your participation, complete the following Google Form and attach a screen shot of verification. CLICK HERE FOR GOOGLE FORM.

Forms of verification: 

  1. Confirmation email verifying that you attended (emails verifying that you have registered will not be approved)
  2. Screen shot of the final slide of the presentation.
  3. Any other email after the presentation that can verify you attended the live session or watched the recording.

Please allow our office 7 business days to verify and process your confirmation of attendance. Please contact us if you believe you completed the confirmation of attendance and still have not received credit in your Crosby Scholars Student Portal.
