CSA #17-B Understanding the Financial Aid Process- Guest Speaker from UNC Asheville (Seniors)

Do you have questions about the financial aid process of the FAFSA?  Join us on October 15th for CSA #17-B Understanding the Financial Aid Process- Guest Speaker from UNC Asheville, to learn the basics of applying for financial aid. The event is sponsored by Crosby Scholars of Iredell County and will feature a guest speaker from UNC Asheville: Cody Woods.

CSA #12-C Essay Writing Bootcamp (Seniors)

No calisthenics or saluting; we promise.  Bring your college admission or scholarship essay(s) and meet with Crosby staff and volunteers experienced in critiquing students’ writing.  Essays will be reviewed primarily for content with respect to following the prompt and being clear on what students are trying to share about themselves.  Those students whose essays reveal significant deficiencies in grammar, punctuation, and spelling will be advised to consult an English teacher for assistance in cleaning up those aspects of their writing.

Location: Virtual- registration for this event is required in your student portal to received the event link. 24 hours before the event you will receive the link to join the virtual presentation. Students will be assigned a specific timeslot for the event. This information will be emailed 24 hours in advance along with the specific zoom information.

CSA #19 — Essay Writing Workshop with Duke Admissions (Seniors)

Writing admission essays can often be an intimidating aspect of completing college applications. Learn how to “show, rather than tell” about yourself and why you should welcome the opportunity to write an essay!

CSA #18 NC Merit Scholarship Session- Hosted by NCSU, ECU, NC Central, UNC Charlotte, UNC Chapel Hill (Seniors)

Interested high school students and families are invited to join the several North Carolina scholarship programs, including NC State, East Carolina University, UNC Charlotte, NC Central, and UNC Chapel Hill, for an informational evening via Zoom. Program representatives will provide an overview of each scholarship and answer questions.

Registration is required using the links below. This event is hosted by NC State and other partner schools (not Crosby Scholars). Students should register for each session that they want to attend. Once they register, they’ll receive a confirmation email with their unique link to join the webinar.

HOW TO RECEIVE CREDIT –

  1. Attend one of the approved sessions live or watch the session recording. You must register for the webinar using the links above.
  2. Verify your attendance. Once you have attended a FAFSA Day presentation and have received a confirmation of attendance for your participation, complete the following Google Form and attach a screen shot of verification. CLICK HERE FOR GOOGLE FORM.

Forms of verification: 

  1. Confirmation email verifying that you attended (emails verifying that you have registered will not be approved)
  2. Screen shot of the final slide of the presentation.
  3. Any other email after the presentation that can verify you attended the live session or watched the recording.

Please allow our office 7 business days to verify and process your confirmation of attendance. Please contact us if you believe you completed the confirmation of attendance and still have not received credit in your Crosby Scholars Student Portal.

College-A-Day Series: UNC Charlotte (Juniors & Seniors)

Visiting your possible future home for your next educational journey is an exciting time as you consider where to apply for your collegiate career. However, during this year and impacts from campus closures, we have shifted our college tours to a virtual platform. Join us throughout the day on September 30 on social media and webinar, to learn more about UNC Charlotte! From 10AM-2PM we will takeover our Instagram (@crosbyscholars) covering a variety of topics on college life at Guilford. We will also host a Live College Panel at 6:30PM where you will have the opportunity to ask your specific questions to current college students.

We know that nothing can replace the experience of physically touring a college campus, but we do hope we can help you connect with a variety of schools through a virtual platform. To encourage you to participate, we will award credit for the College Fair/Visit requirement if you attend 4 out of the 5 Live College Panels between September and December. You will need to register for each Live Panel and attend at least 4 to receive credit.

**SENIORS: The college panel will count for 1 our of 4 of the required college visits needed for the College Fair/Visit requirement due October 31st. You can combine these with additional College-A-Day sessions or complete virtual visits on your own to receive credit for the College Fair/Visit requirement.

Do you have questions about the test-optional policy that many schools have adopted for the 2020-2021 application year?
