The Crosby Scholars Last Dollar Grant is need-based aid. A scholar must apply for financial aid by submitting a FAFSA to be considered for a Last Dollar Grant. A scholar must not only demonstrate financial need but also demonstrate remaining need after his/her college has awarded aid.

To determine the eligibility, the Crosby Scholars staff completes a need analysis form on each scholar individually. Last Dollar Grant applications are available through the Crosby Scholars Student Portal for the Class of 2014 and beyond.  Paper Last Dollar Grant applications are available for the Class of 2012 and 2013.

To apply, a scholar must simply complete the application in his/her Crosby Scholars Student Portal and submit it by or June 15 (current college Crosby Scholars). Four supporting documents must also be uploaded to complete the application.

  1. a copy of the scholar’s grades including the cumulative GPA,
  2. proof of enrollment such as a class schedule or bill,
  3. the financial aid award letter from the institution he/she attends,
  4. the Student Aid Report – SAR

If the scholar does not have the supporting documents by the deadline, he/she must submit the application and then submit the supporting documents when they are received. Priority is given to those applications received prior to the deadline.

Scholars are notified of our decision after July 1.  Notification letters will be posted in the Crosby Scholars Student Portal.  Depending on which college the student is attending, awards are either sent by ACH (electronic deposit) or a check made payable to the scholar and the institution.  Both are sent directly to the institution.

The first half of the award is sent after August 1 and is to be used for the fall semester.

The second half of the award is sent upon receipt of the scholar’s fall semester grades and is to be used for the second semester. A screen shot from your college account is fine – an official transcript is not required. For scholars in the Class of 2014 and beyond, you must upload a copy of your fall college grades, including your cumulative GPA, to your Crosby portal. Instructions on how to upload your grades are posted in your Crosby portal. For scholars in the Class of 2012 and 2013, you must submit a paper copy of your fall grades, including your cumulative GPA, to the Program’s office.

Crosby Scholars who complete the Program their senior year with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher are eligible to apply for a Last Dollar Grant for up to 4 years. Even if a last dollar grant is not awarded the first year, the scholar may still reapply 3 times. A Scholar who does not graduate from high school with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher, may apply once his/her college cumulative GPA is 2.0 or higher.

Students must apply for last dollar grant funding within two years of high school graduation. The last dollar grant policy states that scholars are eligible for funding consideration for up to four years of undergraduate studies within six years after high school graduation. Students must reapply each year.
