8th Grade STEM Workshop

April 9, 2021 @ 10:00 am - 12:30 pm

Interested in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM)?

Join us for a workshop!

In conjunction with The SciTech Institute (a community enrichment program in science, math, and technology) – Crosby Scholars is offering a STEM workshop for middle school Crosby Scholars.

8th graders will review EOG chemistry concepts in connection with forensics by conducting experiments to identify mystery substances. You will listen to a “witness” and use their descriptions to try to sketch what they think the suspect looks like, use their digital microscopes to identify fingerprints and explore items they collect from around the building, and explore types of fossils and research where their organism appeared on the geologic timeline.

*Students will need to have a device (computer, tablet, smart phone) which will connect to the building’s wi-fi.

Date:  Friday, April 9th (no school for WSFCS students)

Time: 10:00am – 12:30pm. Check in begins at 9:45am. Students cannot arrive prior to 9:45am.

Location: Self Reliance Hall – Goodwill Industries Building (2701 University Parkway, Winston-Salem, 27105)

Each student will be provided a kit with the necessary tools. More details will be sent the week prior to the event. Workshops will be held virtually and in-person.
