Class of 2023 Crosby Scholar Alecia Washington was the first African-American student to become Valedictorian at R.J. Reynolds High School in 100 years. Alecia is attending the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and was accepted to the Levine Scholars Program, UNC Charlotte’s premier merit scholarship valued at over $115,000.

Alecia shared, “UNC Charlotte has always been a top choice of mine, and to go there on a full academic scholarship is amazing.” She is grateful for the opportunity to be a Levine Scholar to help her achieve success as a nursing student and a young humanitarian.

“The Crosby Scholars Program has been a great support system for me throughout middle and high school. My Crosby Scholar Advisor has been a tremendous wealth of knowledge and support as I was applying to colleges and scholarship programs. My advisor read over my essays and made helpful suggestions, and also conducted a mock interview to help prepare me for the scholarship interview process. The actions and words of the Crosby Scholars’ staff made me feel supported and confident, for which I’m very grateful for.”
