2008-2009 Crosby Scholars High School Program

The Crosby Scholars Program is available to middle and high school students enrolled in Forsyth County public schools. The goal of the program is to help students prepare to enroll in college upon high school graduation by encouraging them to demonstrate good citizenship, remain drug-free, and strive for academic excellence. This is achieved through academic and personal development workshops, advising, and a host of activities sponsored by the Program. Participants who complete all program requirements are recognized annually and receive the Crosby Scholar designation on the official transcript upon each year of program completion. Crosby Scholars completing the program in the senior year are eligible to apply for renewable last dollar grants for up to $1,200 a year to help finance their college education.

Students who submit an online application at www.crosbyscholar.org and a partnership agreement by October 2 are automatically accepted into the Crosby Scholars Program for the 2008-2009 school year. Participation in the Program is not activated until the Crosby Scholar attends Saturday Academy. Students who completed the program last year should not re-apply. There is no junior or senior application for this Program. This is the last opportunity for high school 10th graders to become Crosby Scholars.

To remain active, students must complete the following program requirements each year (unless otherwise stated):

  1. Comply with the terms of the Partnership Agreement - By signing the partnership agreement, you are agreeing to demonstrate the qualities of a Crosby Scholar. Students placed on out-of-school suspension during the school year will not be allowed to continue in the program for the remainder of the school year.

  2. Attend Saturday Academy - Each Crosby Scholar must attend one Saturday Academy. Dates and location depend upon the grade of the scholar.

  3. Perform Community Service by April 8, 2009 - Community service or volunteer work during the academic school year may be completed individually or through a club or group at school, church, or in the community. Volunteer (2 hours required; 5 hours recommended) and then submit a signed community service form or verification of community service by April 8, 2009. Forms signed by parents will not be accepted. Community Service forms are available in your guidance office or view the forms section on this site.

  4. Sign up for Its Our Call - Scholars must sign up for the Its Our Call program at their school. This program, sponsored by the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System, allows Scholars to show their commitment to remain drug and alcohol free. Scholars agree to participate in random drug testing. Additional details are outlined in the partnership agreement.

  5. Attend the Post Secondary Opportunities Session (PSOS) - The PSOS/College Night scheduled for September 29 from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Benton Convention Center gives students and parents the opportunity to meet with over 200 college representatives. Scholars in grades ten and eleven are encouraged to complete this requirement before their senior year. Crosby Scholars must stop by our table before visiting with colleges to pick-up their college fair participation form or visit our website to print a form in advance. Forms should be submitted to our table at the PSOS/College night.

  6. Meet with an Advisor - Crosby Scholars in grades 9-11 will be assigned to a grade advisor. Grade advisor meetings are held once a month beginning in January. A description of the grade advisor program will be enclosed with the grade advisor assignment letter.

Please contact our office at 725-5371 or at info@crosbyscholars.org should you have any questions. You may apply to the program through this site beginning September 2.
