Crosby Scholars Program
Alumni
Who are considered Alumni Crosby Scholars?
Alumni Crosby Scholars may be defined in two ways.
1) Those students who have completed the Crosby Scholars
Program as high school seniors and are eligible to apply for last
dollar
grant scholarships.
2) Those students who completed at least one full
year as a Crosby Scholar, but did not complete the program as a senior,
thereby forfeiting eligibility to apply
for a Crosby Scholar last dollar grant.
Most information provided in this section relates to Alumni Crosby
Scholars who are eligible to apply for last dollar grant scholarships.
How do I remain an active college Crosby Scholar
alumnus/a?
The program asks Alumni Crosby Scholars to continue their participation
in the program at the collegiate level by submitting their grades
and completing a survey at the end of each semester of college.
The purpose of submitting this information is to allow us to track
the progress of students and to determine grade eligibility for
last dollar grant scholarships.
Am I required to reapply for a last dollar grant
each year?
Yes, each student must reapply and submit the appropriate documentation
to be considered for a last dollar grant annually.
How do I reapply for a last dollar grant?
Students submitting their grades at the end of each semester automatically
receive a last dollar grant application. Applications are mailed
early May and the application deadline is generally June 15. The
application along with the following information is needed before
last dollar grant eligibility can be determined:
1. A copy of the Student Aid Report (SAR)
2. A copy of the Financial Aid Award Letter
3. Verification of Enrollment (i.e. registration
form, housing contract)
When will I know if I will receive a last dollar
grant?
Beginning July 1, the office begins notifying students with completed
applications of their award status. First semester checks are mailed
to colleges beginning August 1. Second semester checks are mailed
to colleges upon receipt of fall semester grades beginning mid-December.
How long am I eligible to apply for a last dollar
grant?
All Scholars must reapply for the funds within two years after high
school graduation. Students may receive funds for up to four years
of college. Unfortunately, the program does not award scholarships
for graduate or professional school enrollment.
What can I do to help support the Crosby
Scholars Program?
- We want each Crosby Scholar to be the best possible student.
By entering college and demonstrating good citizenship, remaining
drug-free, striving for academic success and serving the community,
Scholars demonstrate the success of the program. Alumni Crosby
Scholars pave the way for future Crosby Scholars through their
own achievement.
- We encourage alumni Crosby Scholars to come back and volunteer
as mentors, panelists and advisors to our current Crosby Scholars.
- We invite you to support the program with a financial contribution
of any size you can. This contribution, no matter what the amount,
shows the public that the people who directly benefited from the
Program put a high value on their experience and want it to be
available to students in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County schools.
